Goldman Sachs’ Response to Today’s New York Times Op-Ed

Written by magster_magesh. Posted in Biz

Following an Op-Ed piece in The New York Times on Wednesday, 14 March 2012, Goldman Sachs Chairman and CEO Lloyd Blankfein and President and Chief Operating Officer Gary Cohn sent the following message to the people of Goldman Sachs. We hope you will find this helpful.

By now, many of you have read the submission in today’s New York Times by a former employee of the firm. Needless to say, we were disappointed to read the assertions made by this individual that do not reflect our values, our culture and how the vast majority of people at Goldman Sachs think about the firm and the work it does on behalf of our clients.

In a company of our size, it is not shocking that some people could feel disgruntled. But that does not and should not represent our firm of more than 30,000 people. Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion. But, it is unfortunate that an individual opinion about Goldman Sachs is amplified in a newspaper and speaks louder than the regular, detailed and intensive feedback you have provided the firm and independent, public surveys of workplace environments.
While we expect you find the words you read today foreign from your own day-to-day experiences, we wanted to remind you what we, as a firm – individually and collectively – think about Goldman Sachs and our client-driven culture.

First, 85 percent of the firm responded to our recent People Survey, which provides the most detailed and comprehensive review to determine how our people feel about Goldman Sachs and the work they do.

And, what do our people think about how we interact with our clients? Across the firm at all levels, 89 percent of you said that the firm provides exceptional service to them. For the group of nearly 12,000 vice presidents, of which the author of today’s commentary was, that number was similarly high.

Anyone who feels otherwise has available to him or her a mechanism for anonymously expressing their concerns. We are not aware that the writer of the opinion piece expressed misgivings through this avenue, however, if an individual expresses issues, we examine them carefully and we will be doing so in this case.

Our firm has had its share of challenges during and after the financial crisis, but your pride in Goldman Sachs is clear. You’ve not only told us, you have told external surveys.

Just two weeks ago, Goldman Sachs was named one of the best places to work in the United Kingdom, where this employee resides. The firm was the highest placed financial services company for the third consecutive year and was the only one in its peer group to make the top 25.

We are far from perfect, but where the firm has seen a problem, we’ve responded to it seriously and substantively. And we have demonstrated that fact.

It is unfortunate that all of you who worked so hard through a difficult environment over the last few years now have to respond to this. But, our response is best demonstrated in how we really work with and help our clients through our commitment to their long-term interests. That priority has distinguished us in the past, through the financial crisis and today.
Thank you.
Lloyd C. Blankfein Gary D. Cohn

Written by magster_magesh. Posted in firefox, Internet, Technical

Hey guys,

Hope many of you are on facebook for quite a long time. Many might also be on twitter. Twitter gives you the option to customize your backgrounds and styles so that you can customize it to the styles that you like. Many use facebook more than any other sites on web. But you would only have to depend on the employees of facebook to change styles once in a while. Most of which you would not like. The similar kind of theming that you would have seen on twitter is just not available on FACEBOOK. But always remember ‘there is always a hack’  for everything.

Now I will be showing you how to customize your facebook so that you can see your favorite site the way you like rather than the way it shows.

Steps to customize your Facebook

Step 1 : Get firefox browser [ My all time favorite ]

Step 2 : Get the addon called stylish. Get it from the addons tab available in the tools of firefox.

How GOOGLE knows if you clicked your own ads – Adsense

Written by magster_magesh. Posted in Internet, Technical

If you have a new adsense account and when ads start showing up on the blank spaces( ad holders ) you would like to check out if these ads are working by click in them. You might not have done it with any wrong intentions, but alas google would have banned your account. It will not be easy to get your account back, but though it is possible by means of appeals.

How does google find out if you are clicking your own ads

You might have changed your IP Adress or logged on some computer in your school or college and click the ads on your Website for more revenue. But GOOGLE is intelligent enough to hunt you down.

Clicking on your own ads in wrong. Never do it even for testing purposes.

So how does google find this out ?

Way too many clicks

Too many clicks may cause your adsense account to be disabled. This might not be just you. Someone with a revenge on you can even do this on your site and cause your adsense account to be disabled for life.

Direct URL visits

If someone enters the URL directly into the browser and clicks on the ads then surely GOOGLE would know that this is a fraud click made by you or encouraged by you. So BINGO!! Your account has a high probability of being disabled.

Dispropotionate Traffic to clicks ratio

You might have a lot of visitors to your site, but only a small portion of them might be interested in the ads displayed and click on them. If there are 1000 impressions, you might have some 50 clicks atmost. But if 70% of your visitors click on ads, then it might mean that visitors are encouraged to click on the ads and might lead to further site review. So if your site has a high traffic-click ratio then you might be suspected of fraudulence

Non related advertisement cliks

If you got clicks that are not related to your website or blog post then this might also a result to ban.

Vistor Duration

Google knows a lot about what is happening in your site. If your visitor stays only for a few seconds and clicks on ads then there will be suspecion and your account might have a possiblility of being banned.

If you did not know how GOOGLE got these information then its probably the best time for you to get your analytics account. If you have already owned it then you would know how google has these fine-grained information.

Gravatars – The new Avatars

Written by magster_magesh. Posted in Internet, PHP, Technical, Technology

If you are accustomed to visiting forums then having avatars for your profile would not be such a new thing for you. If not then I might need to say what AVATARS are because i would not want you to relate it with the James Cameroon Movie. Avatars are nothing but the profile pictures. But the common fact is that people feel reluctant to do this. Most forums go without profile pictures for the users, but these pictures are really a way of expressing your identity. So is there an alternative. Yes there is !!!!

Gravatars :

Gravatars – A Globally Recognized Avatar
This is 1 image that is used through out your internet profile, on various websites, blogs and forums. How is this really done. Well, your E-Mail address is the key.

Your gravatar is linked with your e-mail address. Where-ever you register with your email address the gravatar linked with that address is used.

Registration :

You can register for your gravatar on Gravatar.com

All you need to do is to register with your email address and select your pic. That’s it. You are good to go. The Gravatar page boast of serving 29,015 requests per second! So you can be pretty sure of using it on your site without fear

Implementation on your site

Using gravatars on your website is a piece of cake. This can be done wuite easily using PHP code.

echo get_avatar( $id_or_email, $size = '96', $default = ' ' );
?>

If you are using a CMS of some sorts, then there are available plugins that you can install on your site and get going right away.

How a Gravatar is Constructed

This is a dynamic generated URL for the src section of your img tags. The way that the URL is constructed is thus. The initials part is the link to their site where all the images are stored.

http://www.gravatar.com/avatar/

The next part is a hashed version of the user’s email address. md5 hashing is used in this case after converting the users email to lower case letters

An optional rating (or r) parameter [ G | PG | R | X ] the reason for which is described below.

?r=PG

Privacy Settings

So is the same pictures shown on all site. Sometimes you would not want to use your real picture on certain sites. So gravatar gives you options of choosing different pictures

for different website types based on age ratings

  • G or better
  • PG or better
  • R or better
  • X or better
    • So you would not risk your original photos on certain A-rated sites. Here is my new STEVEN GERRARD gravatar for the site. Have fun.

Do not lose browsing speeds while downloading

This is just a thumbs up that i wanted to give to one of the my most frequently used addons on firefox.

Usual Download Managers

Many use various download managers like IDM. These are separate programs that have to be installed on your system. Something that is minimized to your tray and that keeps running in the background.

Many prefer not to be bothered by downloads.
Is that so ? What do you do when you are downloading ? Read a News-paper ?

Earn via YOUTUBE

Written by magster_magesh. Posted in Endorsements, Internet

Hi guys,
I don’t know if you would have noticed, there are certain channels which very active in youtube – being updated with new videos regularly during the week. You might have wondered if these guys didn’t have anything better to do. Why post somethings on youtube and try to get over million views. What do they accomplish by that ?

Well, the fact is that they make a earning via youtube. This is via the youtube affliate programme.

Youtube Affliate Programme

Youtube has a affliate program which you need to enroll to first before you could embark on a career on youtube. But first there are a few pre-requisites that you would need to satisfy :

  • Your videos must have millions of hits on youtube
  • You must post videos regularly on youtube. ( Regularly in the sense twice a week or so )
  • Your videos need to be original.

There are people out there on youtube who make 6 digit annual salaries just via youtube. Some of them are SMOSH who make really funny videos and RayWilliamJohnson who reviews the hottest trending videos on youtube every week. All that you need to be is be funny, talk real fast and have a good editor who can make your videos hot and crisp. The SMOSH who make the maximum have the most views on youtube. They are really funny and have great editing skills.

How to become an affliate ?

You can enroll yourself into the program by following this link.
Youtube affliate programme
You might have noticed that this is a pay-per-impression programme.

What is pay-per-impression programme ?

Google uses its technology to display ads along with your videos. You do not get money only when the user clicks on them as in Adsense. These are pay-per-impression ads, which mean you get paid when the ad displays along with your video. So every time an ad is displayed then your impression count goes up by 1. So you don’t have to risk on your viewers to click in those ads. If you are getting a good amount fo views then definitely you are sure to get impressions which are sirectly propotional to each other. So you can be pretty sure that you will surely be paid.

Why Million views ?

You might wonder why youtube asks for several hundreds of views for each of your videos. This is because youtube pays really less for the impressions that your ad gets on your video or channel page. So unless you have several hundreds of views, you are not going to make anything worthy from Youtube.

Why not give it a try. If you are funny and if your local population love it make your own videos and make a hell of profit out of them. Maybe if you cannot turn out to be the next SMOSH, you can atleast become the next JUSTIN BIEBER(I did not mean becoming G-A-Y, I meant becoming rich).

Solve faster battery drain due to mobile internet

Written by magster_magesh. Posted in Mobile Internet, Mobile phones, Technology

Now a days all mobiles have internet enabled with Wi-Fi, 2G and 3G wireless technologies. This helps everyone to keep upto-date with their business and work. But the problem that most of them report is that the battery drains too fast when the internet is on. When the internet is on there is an aditional load on the mobile but this does not substantiate for the exponential decrease in battery performance. This is basically a misconception from the users’ point.
